افتراضي University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries
The University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries sends selected library materials to Internet Archive for scanning and online access from a variety of units and collections within the Libraries. These include but are not limited to U. S. Government Documents, UF print Dissertations, Duplicates from the storage collection and the Panama Canal Museum Collection. The Internet Archive pre-scanning processing operation at the Libraries is managed by the Preservation Department.
Digitization is being provided for Government Document items that are fragile or difficult to retrieve to better insure long term and widespread accessibility.

“Panama and the Canal” is a joint project from the University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries and the Panama Canal Museum. Parts of the print collection are being digitized through Internet Archive. UF print Dissertations are being digitized by Internet Archive for preservation and dissemination of these unique scholarly works.

The UF Libraries also operates an internal digitization unit, the Digital Library Center (DLC). The DLC supports on-site digitization and develops, manages, and publishes digital content from curatorial collections in support of academic programs. The DLC also organizes conversion and ingest capabilities, facilitates awareness and coordinates instruction in scholarly use and development of digital technologies and their application to collection and publishing services.

The UF Libraries utilizes external and internal digitization to optimize capacities and capabilities. The UF Libraries is committed to digitization programs to improve access and to ensure the preservation of materials.
